Sesto Calende is an old village set on the banks of the river Ticino where the river flows into Lake Maggiore, its origins date back to Roman times. Thanks to its strategic position on the border with the province of Piemonte it has always been an active and advanced place in communication and navigation.
Today the lakefront maintains the features of past times having escaped the uncontrolled urban expansion of the region, even if the fort that once dominated the port is now in ruins. The neighbouring communities include: S. Anna, Lisanze, Coquo, S. Giorgio, Lentate, Oriano e Oneda.
